Originally from Westport, Tony has been in the funeral industry since leaving school in 1984 and has been Manager of John Rhinds since 2002. Outside of work Tony is a member of Woolston Brass, Christchurch Rotary, a Justice of the Peace, and Board Member of WindsorCare. When time allows Tony loves travelling with his partner and sons.

Michelle comes from a varied background of healthcare, business ownership, sales and management, and bereavement services. Ultimately all bringing her into her desired role as a funeral director. Michelle won top student award through her funeral directing qualification. She is the Assistant Manager and Operations Manager. When away from work Michelle loves to travel, spend time with her husband and family whilst staying involved with several local charities including Marralomeda; whom she is the Board Chairperson.

Zane was born in the Central North Island and moved to Christchurch in 1988. He started at John Rhind Funeral Directors in 1989 as an Assistant and became a Registered Funeral Director in 2003.

Zane loves his family, the outdoors, family pets, and all animals.  His happy space is spending time in the garden, at the gym and special family time with his children and grandchildren.

Demetre, although born in the North Island, now happily calls Christchurch home. He is a member of Riccarton Community Church.

He is a fan of all sports, enjoys gaming and has known from a young age that he wanted a career where he was able to help people.

Born in South Oxfordshire UK, Hugh moved to NZ 2002. He joined the John Rhind team in 2007 as an Assistant later to become a Funeral Director.

Hugh appreciates helping people through difficult times. He loves music, DIY projects, swimming and e-bikes.

Hugh is the artist responsible for the beautiful mural on the outside of our Catering Lounge.

Glenys is a proud mum to two amazing daughters and grandmother to two beautiful grandchildren. She enjoys watching a variety of sport, knitting, fishing and spending time with family.

Glenys has been a Funeral Director with john Rhind since 2010 and feels incredibly privileged to support and care for families.

Grant brings a strong rural background from growing up in Mid Canterbury and started with John Rhind in 2015.

Outside of his role as a Funeral Director Grant enjoys Mountain Biking on the port Hills and also bike packing. In 2024 he completed the Tour Aotearoa cycling the length of New Zealand in 26 days.

When not on his bike you may find Grant on the bowling green.  He is married with 2 adult daughters whom both work in front facing roles with Bunnings NZ and Queensland Health.

John has been part of the team at John Rhind since 2023.

Inspired by a neighbour in his childhood, funeral service has been a life-long vocation for John, who will attain 50 years’ service in 2027. 

John has had significant industry involvement during his career and has been accorded Life Membership of the Embalmers Association and is a Life Representative of the Funeral Directors Association, which he served as President in 2004-2006.

He was the funeral director for the State funeral of the NZ Unknown Warrior in 2004.

Stacy moved to New Zealand after completing a BA (hons) in Public Relations in the UK. She loves going to the theatre and always has a jigsaw puzzle on the go.

Stacy has completed Level Three New Zealand Sign Language and continues to learn through her relationship with the Deaf Community.

John, known as “JB” to his friends, started at John Rhind as an Assistant before becoming a Funeral Director.

You may recognise him from local theatre productions over the years. John is known for his hospitality and regularly hosts poker nights for his friends.

The fourth generation of the Rhind family at John Rhind Funeral Directors, Graeme will have been in the funeral profession 50 years in 2027.

Graeme is married to Annette, who also worked in the family business for 20 years. They have two adult children, a grandson and two dogs. Graeme is the Chair of InvoCare NZ Ltd and a trustee of Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust. He enjoys walking the Cashmere Hills (his backyard) and going to the gym.

Jade loves all things country! She is happiest when busy and outdoors. She enjoys many sports.

Jade’s background in health care led her to realise her passion to follow her Mum’s footsteps in the funeral industry.

Canterbury born and bred, Gregory loves music, plays several instruments and is a member of two bands.

Gregory was sworn in as a Justice of the peace in 2025 and gets great enjoyment from this service to the community. He is passionate about history and genealogy. His quiet place is pottering in the garden.

Embalmer

Holly started at John Rhind in 2022 following a career in healthcare. Holly began as an assistant then  eventually moved to join the mortuary care team. 

Outside of work Holly is a keen vegetable gardener and enjoys spending time with her young family. 

Angela is part of our Administration Team and may be the first person you speak to on the phone, or meet when arriving at our office.

Her skills of combining creativity and attention to detail are invaluable in her graphics role.

She enjoys spending time with family and friends and walking with her two dogs.

Although born in the UK, Julia has lived in Christchurch since her early childhood.

She started at John Rhind as a Funeral Director Assistant before entering the role of Accounts Administrator.

When not at work Julia is busy enjoying time with her family. She loves nothing more than a good book, watching a movie and playing computer games.

Carolyn began her career in the funeral industry in Wellington in 2002. Moving to Christchurch in 2023 to be closer to her children and grandchildren she joined the John Rhind team and continues her vocation as our Office Administrator.

Carolyn enjoys time in the garden, caravanning with her husband and of course, spending time with her grandchildren.

Phil is our long-serving consistently award-winning Gardener. He has been a part of the John Rhind Team since 1992.

You won’t find Phil on-site on a Friday afternoon as he will be busy on the golf course winding down into the weekend.
